Wet shoes, wet socks, wet feet. Another day of rain. Temperature is around 55 F. We are enjoying British TV. Hooked on Pop Idol, the UK version of American Idol or actually it is the other way round. No internet access, probably will just continue to relay messages via phone.

Wednesday, 13 June 2007

We passed the haflway point today. It is beautiful here in the Yorkshire Dales, just like a photo from National Geographic. It rained today and we are wet. Perhaps we will have internet access tomorrow for a proper message.

Sunday, 10 June 2007

We have arrived in Orton, crossed the A6 highway without incident. Next section of the walk is the moorland and Yorkshire Dales. As promised there are a few new photos in the Gallery.

Friday, 8 June 2007

"It was a Striding Edge day! Bill, Karen, Deidre and I climbed to the top of Helvellyn and crossed the Striding Edge. Learn more about the Striding Edge here. We did not walk along the absolute top but a few feet below the edge, The harriest part of the whole thing was climbing down to get off the Edge. We had to scramble down with hands and feet. "

Day three

Message from the top of a mountain over looking Grasmere via cell phone:

" What's the best kind of walking? Fell walking.
Whats the best kind of fell walking? Ridge walking."

Alfred Wainright

" It's simply Grand! It's a bit cooler but we are still wearing shorts and short sleve shirts. Easier walking today."

Connie sends word at the end of day 2 of walking via telephone. No internet available for her to send updates:

The weather is warm and the countryside is beautiful.

"We are having a grand time."

The walkers have completed 28.5 of the 190 miles.

Cell phone message from Connie, 6:00 PM local time

We have arrived in St Bees after a mad taxi ride from Manchester. We are ready to begin walking in the morning!

Sunday, 3 June 2007

One hour from departure time and I am excited. The Over-the-Hill Hikers are ready to go over the Pond. We'll start hiking on Tuesday. At this time, over $5000 has been raised for Project Africa and The Children's Pantry.
Look for periodic updates on this website. I'll be sending messages as often as internet access is available.

Thank you so much for your support!

Connie
